Visitors can use Kakao T, but set up the account and payment method before you need a ride. For a standard taxi call, paying the driver directly is an option to look for if you do not want to register a card in the app.

If account setup gets in the way, compare k.ride, Kakao Mobility’s app for visitors. If you already use Uber, you can also look for taxi options there. The available cars and payment choices depend on the service you select.

Finding direct payment in Kakao T

Set the pickup point and destination, choose a standard taxi call, then open the payment method selection before confirming the request.

Look below the main payment list. In the Korean screen checked for this guide, direct payment sits in a panel that you swipe sideways. The button reads 직접 결제하기, meaning pay directly. It is below the list of options such as cards and Kakao Pay, rather than another item in that list.

If you are already on the confirmation screen, tap the payment method to reopen the choices. Find the direct payment option, apply it, then read the payment method shown on the final request screen.

The Kakao Mobility payment help is the place to consult if your screen or selected taxi service offers different options. The Korean layout above was checked in September 2026. It should not be treated as the exact layout of every app version or language.

Direct payment means you must pay the fare in the car. Confirm that the driver can accept your cash or physical card. Do not assume the app will charge a card after you selected this method.

If account or card setup fails

Complete the account steps while you still have time to receive verification messages and resolve a problem. A working data connection alone does not prove that a phone number can receive a verification text.

If you cannot finish Kakao T setup, move to another option instead of repeatedly requesting a code at the kerb. k.ride is designed for visiting users, while an existing Uber account may save you a new registration.

For any app payment, use the supported method shown in that app and read the conditions before confirming. A card accepted in one app is not automatically accepted in another.

k.ride for an English interface

k.ride’s official site describes an English interface, translated driver chat and automatic payment using supported cards or mobile payment methods. It is operated by Kakao Mobility and provides access to its taxi services.

Set up payment before requesting the ride. Compare the selected vehicle, estimate and any cancellation conditions on the confirmation screen. Use the app’s ride record and support option if the final charge needs an explanation.

Choose k.ride if its registration and English interface suit you. You do not need to install Kakao T as well simply because both are from the same operator.

Uber if you already have an account

Uber’s Seoul guide confirms local taxi requests through its app. Open it, enter your destination and compare the available choices for your pickup point.

Check the payment method for that particular request before confirming. If you want to pay in the car, use that method only when it is offered and selected. Do not assume Uber uses the same vehicle network as Kakao T or k.ride.

Meeting the right car

Put the pickup pin where you can actually wait and be reached, then compare the destination address with your booking or the venue’s own directions. A hotel name alone may return more than one branch.

When a car arrives, compare its registration plate and vehicle details with the app before getting in. The final four digits can help you spot it, but also match the rest of the displayed details. If you cannot confirm the match, contact the driver through the app.

Checking a charge after the trip

An estimated amount and a final fare may appear separately in your banking app. Check whether an entry is pending, cancelled or completed before treating it as a second completed payment.

Compare the completed charge with the ride receipt. If they do not match, use the support option attached to that ride and ask your card issuer about any remaining authorisation hold. There is no single release time that applies to every card.

For an airport arrival with large bags or several passengers, compare this with the airport transport options before choosing a car size or booking a transfer.
